On 14 November 2025, the International Conference on Economics, Business and Technology Management (ICEBTM 2025) commenced its first keynote session, chaired by Prof. Dr. M. Tamim, Vice Chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, Executive Chairman of PPRC and Chairperson of BRAC Bangladesh, whose words set a compelling tone for the conference.
Dr. Rahman illuminated the transformative power of change in shaping Bangladesh’s future, emphasizing the necessity of innovative thinking, strategic foresight, and creative disruption as essential engines of progress. He stressed that a clearly defined point of departure is vital for any meaningful transformation, cautioning that without it, the nation risks being bound by historical constraints.
During his address, Dr. Rahman offered a nuanced reflection on the nation’s current socio-economic landscape. While recognizing the remarkable progress achieved since 1971, he noted that the country’s economic model remains heavily reliant on low-cost labor and that opportunities for skilled youth remain limited. He drew attention to research revealing a reversal in previously declining poverty rates, heightened social vulnerabilities, and an increase in school dropout rates—challenges accentuated by the COVID-19 pandemic. He underscored that timely and decisive action is indispensable for sustaining national development and ensuring inclusive growth.
Towards the conclusion of his address, Dr. Rahman articulated four critical pillars for driving national progress: establishing a high-quality education and skills ecosystem, identifying new growth drivers, fostering accountability and effective governance, and promoting collaboration between professionals and entrepreneurs. He expressed his aspiration that these principles would inspire meaningful discussions and actionable initiatives throughout the conference.
The session concluded with a formal presentation of a crest to Dr. Rahman by Prof. Tamim in recognition of his illuminating contribution. In a gracious exchange, Prof. Mahmood presented a token of appreciation to Prof. Tamim for his exemplary facilitation of the session, and Prof. Habib presented a token of appreciation to Mr. Husain for his support throughout the session.
